In addition to Max's struggles with adjusting to his owner's new family dynamic and country life, the film also follows the misadventures of the other pets from the first film, including the rambunctious bunny Snowball who now fancies himself a superhero. When a young girl named Daisy brings home a cute and curious new dog named Hu, Snowball and his friends must help him navigate the dangers of the city and the schemes of an evil circus owner. Along the way, the pets learn the importance of facing their fears and working together to protect their loved ones. The film features a star-studded cast, including Patton Oswalt as Max, Kevin Hart as Snowball, and Harrison Ford as Rooster.
