The Secret in Their Eyes is a 2009 Argentine thriller film directed by Juan José Campanella and based on the novel La pregunta de sus ojos by Eduardo Sacheri. The film tells the story of Benjamin Esposito, a retired legal counselor who decides to write a novel about a homicide case that he was unable to solve in his early career, and also to find closure for his unrequited love with his superior, Irene Menéndez Hastings.

In 1974, Esposito investigates the brutal rape and murder of a young woman named Liliana Coloto. He is assisted in the investigation by his colleague, Pablo Sandoval, and his superior, Irene Menéndez Hastings, whom he has secretly been in love with for years. However, despite their efforts, the case remains unsolved, and Esposito is left with a feeling of frustration and guilt.

Years later, in 1999, Esposito is retired and decides to write a novel about the case in an effort to find closure. He contacts Sandoval, who has become an alcoholic and has lost his job, for details about the case, and also meets Irene, who is now a judge. As he delves deeper into the case, Esposito uncovers a web of corruption and deceit that threatens to destroy his life.

The film jumps back and forth in time, showing Esposito's investigation of the case in 1974 and his present-day efforts to write the novel. It also explores his relationship with Irene, who is still the love of his life, and the impact of the case on his personal and professional life.

The Secret in Their Eyes won the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film in 2010 and has received critical acclaim for its storytelling, performances, and cinematography.
