The Seagull is a film adaptation of Anton Chekhov's play of the same name. It is set in the late 19th century at a Russian estate near a lake. The film follows the complex relationships between a group of artists and their family members who are all staying at the estate for the summer.
Irina Arkadina is an aging actress who has come to visit her brother, Sorin, who suffers from health issues. Irina brings with her her lover, Boris Trigorin, who is a famous writer. Nina, a young and ambitious actress, has come to the estate to visit her parents who work there.
As the summer progresses, Irina becomes jealous of Nina's youth and talent, and Boris becomes enamored with Nina. Nina, in turn, becomes infatuated with Boris and decides to leave her old life behind to pursue a career in the theater.
The film explores themes of love, jealousy, and ambition, as well as the struggles of artists who must constantly balance their desire for artistic success with the demands of everyday life. The Seagull features a talented cast that includes Annette Bening as Irina, Saoirse Ronan as Nina, and Corey Stoll as Boris.
