The Scorpion King is a 2002 action-adventure film set in ancient Egypt, starring Dwayne Johnson (also known as The Rock) as the lead character Mathayus. Mathayus is a fierce warrior and skilled assassin who is recruited by a group of rebels to kill Memnon, a powerful warlord who has been conquering nearby villages. Memnon is aided by the sorceress Cassandra, who predicts the future and helps him win battles with her powers.
Mathayus agrees to the task, hoping to avenge the death of his brother who was killed by Memnon's forces. In order to succeed, he teams up with a group of allies including a skilled archer named Arpid, a beautiful rebel leader named Layla, and a traitorous former ally of Memnon named Philos.
As they travel to Memnon's fortress, Mathayus and his team are pursued by Memnon's armies, encounter deadly assassins, and face traps and booby traps along the way. Meanwhile, Cassandra begins to have doubts about Memnon's plans and starts to question her own loyalty to him.
Eventually, Mathayus and his team make it to Memnon's fortress, where they engage in a final, epic battle against Memnon's forces and Cassandra. In the end, Mathayus emerges victorious and sets a new course for his world, one that values justice and freedom.
The Scorpion King was a commercial success, grossing over $165 million worldwide. It was also the first major film role for Dwayne Johnson, who went on to become one of Hollywood's biggest action stars.
