Foley, played by Samuel L. Jackson, is a former grifter who has just been released from prison after serving a 20-year sentence. He is determined to leave his criminal past behind and start fresh with the help of his friend and mentor, Ethan (Tom Wilkinson). However, things don't go as planned when he meets Iris (Ruth Negga), a young woman who seems to be in trouble. Against his better judgment, Foley gets involved with Iris, only to find himself drawn back into the dangerous world of grifting.
As Foley tries to navigate his relationship with Iris and figure out how to live an honest life, he is constantly haunted by his past. He must deal with the vengeful son of his former partner, as well as the police officer (Luke Kirby) who put him behind bars. Meanwhile, Ethan urges Foley to take advantage of one last opportunity to pull off a big con and make a fortune in the process.
As the tension and danger mount, Foley must decide whether to stay true to his newfound principles or give in to the temptation of one last big score. The Samaritan is a gritty, suspenseful thriller about redemption, betrayal, and second chances.
