In The Saint, Simon Templar (played by Val Kilmer) is a highly skilled thief who assumes various identities to carry out his heists. He is approached by a wealthy Russian businessman, Ivan Tretiak (Rade Serbedzija), who offers to pay him $2 million to steal a formula for cold fusion from a scientist. However, Simon discovers that Tretiak's real motive is to use the formula to seize control of the Russian oil industry.
Meanwhile, Simon meets an attractive woman named Dr. Emma Russell (Elisabeth Shue), who is working on the cold fusion project. They develop a romantic connection and Simon begins to question his criminal lifestyle.
However, things take a dangerous turn when Tretiak kidnaps Emma and demands that Simon deliver the formula. Simon then teams up with his former mentor, a rogue CIA agent named Frank (Alun Armstrong), to rescue Emma and take down Tretiak.
As they carry out their plan, Simon must also face a dangerous adversary from his past, a former KGB agent named Ilya (Valery Nikolaev), who is seeking revenge against Simon for a previous job gone wrong.
The Saint is a fast-paced action thriller, filled with elaborate heists, car chases, and tense showdowns between Simon and his adversaries. The film also explores Simon's moral dilemma as he grapples with the consequences of his criminal activities and his growing feelings for Emma.
