The Roommate is a psychological thriller film released in 2011. The movie follows Sara Matthews, a freshman design student who arrives in Los Angeles to attend college. Sara is assigned a roommate, Rebecca, who comes from a wealthy family and takes Sara under her wing.
Initially, Rebecca seems like a caring and kind roommate, helping Sara navigate her way around campus and introducing her to new friends. However, as Sara begins to make friends outside of their room, Rebecca starts to become possessive and increasingly jealous of Sara's attention.
Sara soon realizes that there is something off about Rebecca when she finds a shrine in Rebecca's room devoted to Sara and all her belongings. Things take a dangerous turn when Rebecca becomes violent, targeting Sara's new boyfriend, her friends and even Sara herself.
Sara begins to fear for her life and decides to move out of the dorm and into a new apartment with her boyfriend. However, Rebecca's obsession with Sara becomes even more intense, leading to a final showdown where Sara must fight for her life.
The Roommate is a chilling movie that showcases the dangers of becoming too close to someone who may not have your best interests at heart. It stars Minka Kelly as Sara, Leighton Meester as Rebecca, and Cam Gigandet as Sara's boyfriend.
