The Road to El Dorado is a 2000 American animated adventure film directed by Bibo Bergeron and Don Paul. The film tells the story of two con-men, Miguel and Tulio, who accidentally find a map leading to the legendary city of gold, El Dorado, during one of their failed attempts to swindle.
The pair embark on a journey to find the city, and along the way, they meet a native woman named Chel. With her help, they finally land on a remote island, where they discover the city of El Dorado. The native inhabitants, who mistake them for gods, welcome them with open arms and shower them with gifts.
However, their luck begins to run out when they meet the power-hungry high priest of the city, Tzekel-Kan, who is convinced that the pair are mere mortals and not gods. He threatens to imprison them and expose them to the people of the city.
Miguel and Tulio must use their wit and cunning to maintain their status as "gods" and prevent the city from being destroyed by Tzekel-Kan's relentless ambition. Along the way, they also begin to realize that there is more to El Dorado than just the riches, and they must make a choice between their personal gain and doing what is right for their newfound friends.
The film features voice performances by Kevin Kline and Kenneth Branagh as Miguel and Tulio, respectively, while Rosie Perez provides the voice of Chel, and Armand Assante voices Tzekel-Kan. The Road to El Dorado was well-received by audiences and critics alike for its adventurous plot, comedic moments, and memorable soundtrack by legendary composer Elton John and lyricist Tim Rice.
