The Road Dog follows Jimmy (played by Jeff Garlin) as he struggles to reconnect with his son David (played by Adam Pally) while simultaneously reigniting his own career as a stand-up comedian. Jimmy battles with his addiction and tries to make amends with David for leaving him behind when he was younger. David, who idolizes his father as a comedic genius, starts performing stand-up himself and seeks his father's guidance and approval. However, Jimmy's erratic behavior and substance abuse threaten to derail both their lives and careers. Along the way, they encounter a number of colorful characters while touring the comedy circuit, including fellow comics, hecklers, and love interests. As they navigate their tumultuous relationship, they both learn to confront their demons and find redemption through the healing power of comedy.
