"The Return of Jafar" is a direct-to-video animated film released in 1994. It is the first sequel to the original Disney animated film "Aladdin" and continues the story from where the first film left off. Unlike its predecessor, the sequel was not directed by Ron Clements and John Musker and features a different animation style.
The film opens with Aladdin and Princess Jasmine spending time together, while the Genie is off traveling the world. Meanwhile, Iago the parrot, who had previously been Jafar's loyal sidekick, is shown to have escaped from the lamp while it was being buried. He tries to seek refuge with Aladdin and his friends, but they are hesitant to trust him.
Soon enough, Jafar returns as a genie and seeks revenge against Aladdin and takes over the city of Agrabah. He manipulates a weakened Sultan and is able to send Aladdin on an impossible mission to retrieve a magical genie's lamp from the Cave of Wonders. However, with the help of Abu the monkey and Iago, Aladdin is able to thwart Jafar's plans.
Overall, "The Return of Jafar" received mixed reviews from critics, with some praising it as a worthy successor to the original film while others criticized it for the differences in animation style. Nevertheless, it was successful enough to warrant a further animated series, "Aladdin: The Series", and another direct-to-video sequel, "Aladdin and the King of Thieves".
