The Remains of the Day is a 1993 British-American drama film directed by James Ivory and based on the 1989 novel of the same name by Kazuo Ishiguro. The film stars Anthony Hopkins as the head butler, Stevens, and Emma Thompson as the housekeeper, Miss Kenton.
The story is set in the years leading up to World War II and follows Stevens as he reflects on his life and career at the Darlington Hall estate in Oxfordshire.
