Redemption: Karen McCoy's Last Stand

Action,Crime,Drama,Thriller  United States of America

Karen McCoy is played by Kim Basinger, who gives a powerful performance as a tough and resourceful woman who has been caught up in a life of crime. After serving six years in prison for her bank-robbing past, Karen is released back into society with nothing but the clothes on her back and a desire to start anew.

However, Karen quickly realizes that her past won't let her go so easily. On her first day out of prison, her parole officer (played by Terence Stamp) tries to use her as a pawn in his own criminal enterprises. Karen refuses to be a part of this, but the parole officer warns her that he'll be keeping a close eye on her.

To make matters worse, Karen's old business partners (played by Val Kilmer and David Rasche) track her down and pressure her into doing one last job with them. They want her to rob the high-security vault of a businessman (played by Gailard Sartain) who may or may not be connected to the mafia.

Karen initially refuses, but when her ex-husband (played by Jack Noseworthy) kidnaps their son and demands a ransom of $2 million, she finds herself with no choice but to go along with the plan. Karen knows that this job could get her killed, but she's willing to risk everything to save her son.

The movie has a tense and thrilling climactic sequence as Karen and her team attempt to break into the vault, with both the police and the mafia closing in on them. The Real McCoy is a solid heist movie with a strong lead performance from Basinger. It's also notable for being directed by Russell Mulcahy, who is best known for his work on music videos and films like Highlander.
