The Quest is a 1996 action-adventure film directed by Jean-Claude Van Damme, who also stars in the lead role. The film follows the story of Chris Dubois, a streetwise thief in 1920s New York City who is forced to flee to a mercenary camp in the Himalayas after a heist goes wrong. There, he learns about Ghang-gheng, a legendary martial arts competition held every five years in a secret location.

Chris decides to participate in Ghang-gheng in order to win the Golden Dragon, the coveted prize that has eluded him his entire life. He trains rigorously under the tutelage of Master Tcheky Karyo and becomes a skilled fighter, but he soon realizes that winning the competition will require more than just fighting skills. He must also face his own inner demons and learn to confront his past in order to claim his future.

The film features a diverse cast of characters, including a Russian soldier, a Spanish aristocrat, and an African tribesman, all of whom compete alongside Chris in Ghang-gheng. The competition is brutal and dangerous, as the fighters must face deadly challenges and fight to the death in order to advance to the next round.

Ultimately, Chris emerges as the victor of Ghang-gheng after defeating the villainous Maxie Devine, who seeks to use the Golden Dragon for his own nefarious purposes. Chris is able to claim the prize and return to New York City a changed man, having learned valuable lessons about courage, honor, and sacrifice.
