The Pyjama Girl Case is a 1977 Italian-Australian crime film directed by Flavio Mogherini. The film is loosely based on a real-life murder case from the 1930s.
The burned, murdered body of a young woman is found on a beach in New South Wales, Australia. The police have a suspect, a man named Antonio (played by Ray Milland), who they believe is responsible for the crime. However, retired inspector Thompson (played by Arthur Kennedy) is convinced that Antonio is innocent and sets out to prove it.
Meanwhile, Linda (played by Dalila Di Lazzaro), a ferry attendant and waitress, is involved in multiple affairs and eventually marries one of her lovers. However, she continues to see her other lovers, causing complications in her relationship.
As Thompson investigates the murder case, he uncovers evidence that suggests the victim was not who the police thought she was. He begins to suspect that the crime may be linked to a larger conspiracy involving the police force.
The film weaves together the two seemingly separate stories, with the investigation into the murder case intersecting with Linda's complex love life. In the end, the two stories do cross as Thompson's investigation uncovers a shocking connection to Linda's past.
