The Princess of Montpensier is a historical drama film directed by Bertrand Tavernier, released in 2010. Set in France during the 16th century, the story centers around Marie de Mézières, a young aristocrat who is caught in a love triangle with two noble men: Henri de Guise and the Prince of Montpensier.

Marie is in love with Henri but is forced to marry the prince due to political pressures and her family's desires for royal connections. The prince, however, is emotionally distant and brutish, leading Marie to continue her affair with Henri behind closed doors.

The film depicts the brutality and violence of the wars of religion between the Catholics and Protestants, which escalates to the point where Marie and her husband are taken captive by the Huguenots. During her time in captivity, Marie learns about the hypocrisy and cruelty of both sides of the conflict.

The Princess of Montpensier is based on a novel of the same name by Madame de La Fayette, and was hailed by critics for its beautiful cinematography and gripping historical accuracy. It was also praised for its portrayal of strong female characters who are caught in a world dominated by men and politics.
