The Princess and the Matchmaker is a historical romantic comedy set in the Joseon dynasty of Korea. Princess Songhwa is the only daughter of the King and has reached the age where she must choose a husband from one of four eligible suitors chosen by a royal matchmaker.
However, Songhwa is determined to choose her own destiny instead of being forced into a marriage she does not want. She runs away from the palace and hides in the countryside where she meets Seo Do-yoon, a matchmaker who is an expert in interpreting marital harmony and compatibility signs.
When the King learns of Songhwa's disappearance, he sends Do-yoon to find her and bring her back to the palace. Do-yoon finds Songhwa and helps her blend in with the local village, where she works disguised as a fortune teller's assistant.
As Do-yoon observes Songhwa and her interactions with the villagers, he begins to realize that she is not like the other princesses he has matched before. Meanwhile, the four suitors chosen for Songhwa become increasingly desperate to win her hand in marriage, resulting in humorous and entertaining antics.
As Songhwa and Do-yoon grow closer, they work together to find a solution that satisfies the King and allows Songhwa to follow her heart. The movie is a heartwarming and entertaining tale of the power of love and the importance of following one's own path.
