The Pretty One is a 2013 indie comedy-drama film directed by Jenée LaMarque, starring Zoe Kazan in a dual role as Laurel and Audrey, the identical twin sisters. Laurel is the introverted, wallflower sister who has always lived in the shadow of the charismatic and outgoing Audrey, who seems to have it all – beauty, popularity, and success. However, when Audrey dies in a freak accident, Laurel feels lost and alone. She feels like the only way to escape her unhappy life is to take on Audrey's identity.

Laurel becomes Audrey, transforming herself from a plain and awkward girl to a confident and beautiful woman. She moves into Audrey's apartment, starts a new job, and even begins dating Audrey's ex-boyfriend, Basel (Jake Johnson). Along the way, Laurel discovers things about her sister that she never knew before, including a secret romance and a desire to pursue her dream of becoming an artist.

As Laurel begins to enjoy the perks of Audrey's life, she also faces the challenges of maintaining her disguise and dealing with her own guilt and identity crisis. She struggles with keeping up with Audrey's fast-paced lifestyle and hiding her true self from those around her, including Basel, who she begins to fall in love with. Meanwhile, Laurel's neighbor, Charles (Ron Livingston), sees through her facade and becomes a confidant and friend to her.

Ultimately, Laurel comes to realize that she can't keep up the charade forever and must tell the truth about who she really is. In a climactic scene, she reveals her true self to her sister's friends and family, including Basil, who accepts her for who she is. The film ends on a hopeful note, as Laurel decides to pursue her own dreams and embrace her individuality, no longer living in her sister's shadow.
