The Presidio is a 1988 crime thriller directed by Peter Hyams and starring Sean Connery as Colonel Caldwell and Mark Harmon as Detective Jay Austin. The film revolves around a series of murders that take place in both San Francisco and the Presidio military base. Austin, who left the military police after a disagreement with Caldwell over handling of a drunk driver, is now a detective working with the San Francisco police department.
When the killings take place on the Presidio base, Austin is called in to investigate. Caldwell, who is now the base commander, initially refuses to allow Austin to have access to the base. But when a witness identifies a soldier on the base as the killer, Caldwell is forced to work with Austin to solve the case.
As they work together, tension between the two men mounts because of Austin's relationship with Caldwell's daughter. Meanwhile, Austin and his partner (played by Meg Ryan) are hot on the heels of the killer, who seems to be targeting a young woman who works on the base.
The final showdown takes place on the Golden Gate Bridge in a suspenseful and action-packed sequence. Ultimately, Austin and Caldwell are able to put their differences aside and work together to capture the killer and bring justice to the victims.
