The Possession is a horror movie released in 2012, directed by Ole Bornedal. It is based on a true story, which follows a young girl named Em Brenek who purchases an antique box at a yard sale. The box, a Dibbuk box, contains an evil spirit that begins to terrorize Em and her family.

Em's father, Clyde, is a recently divorced basketball coach who is struggling to connect with his daughters after the separation from their mother. When Em begins to act strangely, Clyde assumes it is just the stress of the divorce, but soon realizes it is something more sinister. With the help of his ex-wife, Stephanie, they investigate the origins of the box and attempt to find a way to rid their daughter of the evil spirit.

As they delve deeper into the curse, they discover that the box was used in a Jewish exorcism and that the spirit inside is a Dibbuk, a malevolent entity that possesses and ultimately destroys its host. With time running out, Clyde and Stephanie turn to a Hasidic Jew to help them perform an exorcism and save their daughter.

The Possession features strong performances from Jeffrey Dean Morgan as Clyde and Kyra Sedgwick as Stephanie, and a terrifying portrayal of the possessed Em by Natasha Calis. The movie is a chilling exploration of the power of ancient curses and the lengths a parent will go to protect their child from evil.
