Holly, played by Hilary Duff, creates an email account and begins to send her mother love letters signed by a fictitious secret admirer named "Ben." Jean, played by Heather Locklear, is skeptical at first, but eventually becomes enamored with the idea of having a romantic interest.
As Jean begins to receive flowers, candy, and other gifts from "Ben," Holly must scramble to keep up the charade. She enlists the help of her friend, Adam, played by Ben Feldman, to pose as "Ben" and go on a date with her mother.
