After discovering their true identity, Hallie and Annie come up with a plan to switch places to reunite their estranged parents. Hallie goes to London to live with her refined, wealthy mother, Elizabeth James, while Annie goes to California to live with her laid-back, vineyard-owning father, Nick Parker.
The girls quickly realize how different their lives are from one another's. Hallie is fascinated by the lavish lifestyle and British culture, while Annie struggles to adjust to the rigorous schedule of a working vineyard.
Despite dealing with various obstacles such as strict housekeepers, meddling relatives, and a gold-digging fiancée, the girls persist in their plan to make their parents fall in love all over again. They plot to bring Nick and Elizabeth together at a grand hotel in San Francisco, where their story is finally revealed.
The plan works, and Nick and Elizabeth rekindle their love for one another. The girls are thrilled to finally have a united family and promise to never be separated again. The movie ends with the four of them walking together on a beach in California, truly a happy family once again.
