George and Gwen Kellerman, a middle-aged couple from Ohio, arrive in New York City for a job interview that George hopes will secure his future. They stay at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel where they encounter several mishaps such as lost luggage, stolen money, and a series of miscommunications that lead them into bizarre and comical situations.

The couple's exploits include getting mugged, arrested for jaywalking, and mistakenly boarding a subway that takes them to a dangerous neighborhood. They also find themselves stuck in a traffic jam caused by a parade which leads them to an impromptu singing session with a gospel choir.

Throughout their misadventures, the couple's relationship is tested as they argue and bicker over their misfortunes. Despite their struggles, they persevere and ultimately realize that their shared experiences have brought them closer together.

The Out of Towners is a comedic look at the challenges of navigating a city as a tourist, and the resilience required to overcome unexpected obstacles.
