Comedy,Drama,Romance  United States of America

The Other Sister is a romantic comedy-drama film released in 1999. The movie follows the story of Carla Tate, a mentally challenged girl played by Juliette Lewis, who has spent her entire life in a special institution for people with disabilities. Carla convinces her overprotective parents to let her move into her own apartment and attend college. Her parents are hesitant, especially her mother played by Diane Keaton, who is ashamed of the fact that her daughter has a disability. Carla's father, played by Tom Skerritt, is more supportive of her decision.

In college, Carla meets Danny, a young man played by Giovanni Ribisi, who is also mentally challenged. They quickly develop a strong love connection, although their parents don't initially approve of their relationship. Carla's mother in particular is displeased with Carla's newfound independence and her relationship with Danny. Carla's sister, played by Poppy Montgomery, is also envious of her newfound freedom.

Despite several obstacles and setbacks, Carla proves to be every bit as capable as her sister. She learns to cook, drive and take care of herself independently. Danny and Carla plan to move into an assisted living home together, but their parents object. In the end, Carla's mother comes to accept her daughter for who she is and supports Carla's decision to live with Danny and achieve her dreams. The film emphasizes the importance of acceptance, love, and respect for individuals with disabilities.
