The Oranges is a 2011 romantic comedy-drama film directed by Julian Farino. The movie revolves around the Walling and Ostroff families who are next door neighbors and have been close friends for years. David Walling (Hugh Laurie) and Terry Ostroff (Oliver Platt), best friends since college, live across the street from each other along with their respective wives Paige (Catherine Keener) and Cathy (Alia Shawkat) and children Vanessa (Alia Shawkat) and Nina (Leighton Meester).

One day, David comes home from work early to find that his wife Paige has gone away on a trip. Feeling lonely and depressed, he finds solace in Nina, Terry's daughter, who is half his age. They develop an unexpected and illicit affair that throws the two families into turmoil. Nina's mother Cathy is devastated and Terry is furious after discovering the relationship. Vanessa is also hurt and confused by her father's friend sleeping with her best friend.

As the affair progresses, the families must come to terms with the consequences of their actions and navigate through the complicated relationships that have been shattered. Along the way, they must confront their own desires, failings, and dreams, and ultimately learn to accept each other for who they are, flaws and all.

The Oranges explores themes of morality, love, family, and loneliness through a thoughtful and lighthearted lens. The film boasts a talented cast, including the critically acclaimed Hugh Laurie, and a witty and engaging screenplay that keeps audiences engaged throughout.
