Drama  France

The Night Doctor is a French drama film that follows Mikael, a doctor who works on night call in slum areas, caring for the underprivileged and neglected. He sees the worst of human suffering and tries to make a difference in their lives. However, he has a secret: his cousin, a pharmacist, forces him to write false prescriptions for Subutex, a medication used to treat heroin addiction, which he then sells on the black market. Mikael suffers a moral crisis, torn between his sense of duty to his patients and the pressure he faces to continue with the illegal activities.

One night, after a particularly difficult encounter with a patient, Mikael decides he has had enough. He confronts his cousin and tells him he can no longer be a part of the drug trafficking scheme. But his cousin is not happy and threatens to harm him and his family. Mikael's life begins to unravel as he tries to extricate himself from the dangerous situation.

As the pressure mounts, Mikael finds comfort and solace in the arms of a colleague, Lorraine. Together, they try to build a future and stand up to his cousin and the drug dealers. But the consequences are severe, and Mikael is plunged into a world of darkness and danger. In the end, Mikael must make a difficult choice, one that will change the course of his life forever.

The Night Doctor is a powerful story that explores the darker side of human nature and the redemptive power of love and sacrifice. The film features a standout performance from Vincent Macaigne as Mikael, who portrays a man struggling to find his way in a cruel and unforgiving world. With it's excellent script, direction, and acting, The Night Doctor is a must-see film that will stay with you long after the credits roll.
