City of Shadows: The Hunt for a Killer

Horror  Italy

The New York Ripper is a 1982 Italian horror film directed by Lucio Fulci. The film centers on detective Lt. Fred Williams (played by Jack Hedley), who is investigating a series of brutal murders that have been occurring in New York City. The murders are all being committed by a sadistic killer who taunts the police by calling and using a voice resembling that of a duck. The killer targets young women and gruesomely mutilates them with a straight razor.

To help catch the killer, Williams seeks the help of Dr. Paul Davis (played by Paolo Malco), a psychoanalyst who specializes in deviant behavior. Davis helps Williams analyze the crimes and develop a profile of the killer, but as they get closer to identifying the perpetrator, the killer's violence escalates and Williams realizes the killer may be someone he knows.

The film was highly controversial upon its release due to its extreme violence, graphic sexual content, and misogyny. It was banned in several countries and heavily censored in others. Despite its controversial nature, The New York Ripper has developed a cult following over the years and is regarded as a classic of Italian horror cinema.
