The New Mutants is a horror-thriller film that follows five young mutants who are kept in a secret facility against their will. These mutants are Danielle Moonstar (Blu Hunt), Rahne Sinclair (Maisie Williams), Sam Guthrie (Charlie Heaton), Illyana Rasputin (Anya Taylor-Joy), and Roberto da Costa (Henry Zaga).
Each of them possesses unique mutant abilities, and they are being held captive under the watchful eye of Dr. Cecilia Reyes (Alice Braga), a mutant who claims to be working for the greater good. However, as the story unfolds, the five mutants begin to realize that the facility is not what it seems, and they must fight to escape before it's too late.
Throughout the film, the New Mutants must battle their inner demons and face their traumatic pasts, while also coming to terms with their newfound powers. They also encounter a terrifying entity known as the Demon Bear, which haunts their dreams and poses a significant threat to their survival.
The New Mutants is set within the same continuity as the X-Men film franchise, but it deviates from the traditional superhero genre and explores darker themes of mental health and trauma. It was originally set to release in 2018, but it faced numerous delays and was finally released in August 2020. Despite its mixed reviews, it was praised for its unique take on the superhero genre and its focus on character development.
