John James, played by Kevin Costner, is a successful novelist who is struggling with writer's block and dealing with the recent separation from his wife. He decides to move with his two children, Louisa and Sam, to a secluded house in the woods in South Carolina to find inspiration and start a new life.
As they settle into their new home, strange things begin to happen. The family dog goes missing, and strange noises are heard at night. Louisa becomes obsessed with the Indian burial mound on their property, and strange symbols start appearing on her body.
John starts to investigate the history of the burial mound and learns that it was a sacred site for Native Americans. The previous owner of the house, who mysteriously disappeared, was also obsessed with the burial mound and believed there was something cursed about it.
As the supernatural occurrences escalate, John becomes more and more desperate to protect his children and uncover the truth behind the curse. He enlists the help of a local professor who specializes in Native American folklore and together, they unravel the mystery of the burial mound.
The climax of the movie involves a dramatic showdown between John and the forces of evil that have been awakened by the burial mound. In the end, John is able to save his children and put an end to the curse, but not without sacrificing a part of himself in the process. The New Daughter is a thrilling horror movie that will keep you on the edge of your seat until the very end.
