Dorothy is played by American singer and actress Ashanti who, in addition to her journey to meet the Wizard, also must contend with an evil witch named Miss Piggy who seeks to steal her magical ruby slippers. Along the way, Dorothy meets several familiar Muppet characters who join her on her journey, including Kermit the Frog as the Scarecrow, Gonzo as the Tin Man, and Fozzie Bear as the Cowardly Lion.
The film also features several musical numbers, including Ashanti's rendition of the classic song "Somewhere Over the Rainbow." Other cameo appearances include Queen Latifah as the Wiz and Jeffrey Tambor as the villainous Wizard's assistant.
