Kermit starts off in his hometown of the swamps in Mississippi, where one night he sings the famous song "Rainbow Connection" while playing his banjo. He then receives a visit from Dom DeLuise, who encourages him to leave his swamp and go to Hollywood to pursue his dreams of becoming a famous movie star. Kermit decides to take the advice, and sets off on a journey across the United States to make it to Hollywood.
On the way, he meets various other Muppets, including Fozzie Bear, who is a struggling stand-up comedian, and Miss Piggy, a glamorous pig who dreams of becoming a movie star herself. Along the way, they all face various obstacles, including a group of crazed and destructive bikers, as well as the temptation of becoming famous at any cost.
Meanwhile, Kermit is also trying to evade the clutches of Doc Hopper, a frog-leg restaurant owner who wants Kermit to become the mascot for his chain of restaurants. Hopper sends his henchmen after Kermit and his friends, leading to a series of comical and action-packed chases.
In the end, Kermit and his friends make it to Hollywood, and even manage to put on a successful show, showcasing their talents to various movie producers and directors. This leads to a famous and memorable finale where all the Muppets sing "Rainbow Connection" together, finally achieving their dreams of fame and success in Hollywood.
