The Mosquito Coast is based on the novel of the same name by Paul Theroux, and directed by Peter Weir. The film stars Harrison Ford as Allie Fox, a brilliant inventor who is disillusioned with the American way of life and decides to leave the US with his wife and children to start a new life in the jungles of Belize.
When they arrive in Belize, Allie buys a small village and the family begins to build a new life for themselves. Allie is determined to create a self-sustaining utopia where they can live off the land and be free from the constraints of modern society. He creates a geodesic dome as their home and continues to invent new machines and processes to improve their lives.
