Unearthing the Ancient Ice Sumerians

Adventure,Fantasy,Horror,Science Fiction  United States of America

The Mole People is a 1956 science fiction horror film directed by Virgil W. Vogel. The story revolves around a group of archaeologists who stumble upon the remnants of a mutant Sumerian civilization living beneath a glacier in Mesopotamia. The film stars John Agar, Cynthia Patrick, and Hugh Beaumont.

The archaeologists, led by Dr. Roger Bentley, discover a hidden tunnel beneath a mountain while searching for the lost city of Akkad. They follow the tunnel and find themselves in an underground world inhabited by a race of pale-skinned mutants who have lived there for thousands of years. The mutants are blind and communicate through a form of telepathy.

The archaeologists are captured by the mutants and taken to their queen, who is an albino with the power to control the mutants with her mind. The queen sees Dr. Bentley as a potential mate and orders her minions to kidnap him. The other archaeologists are left to fend for themselves in the hostile underground world.

As they try to escape, the archaeologists uncover the dark secrets of the mutant society and its origins. They face numerous obstacles, including giant centipedes, a subterranean avalanche, and the queen's wrath. In the end, they must make a choice between helping the mutants break free from their underground prison or leaving them to their fate.

The Mole People is a classic example of 1950s B-movie horror. The film features low-budget special effects, campy dialogue, and a sense of adventure and wonder that has endeared it to fans of the genre. It also touches on themes of social inequality, power dynamics, and the consequences of unchecked scientific curiosity.
