The Mirror Crack'd is a 1980 British mystery film based on the 1962 novel The Mirror Crack'd from Side to Side by Agatha Christie. The movie stars Angela Lansbury as Miss Jane Marple, a sharp-witted and observant amateur sleuth who lives in the quaint English village of St. Mary Mead. The film also features Elizabeth Taylor as Marina Gregg, a famous Hollywood actress who has relocated to St. Mary Mead with her husband, film director Jason Rudd (played by Rock Hudson).
The story begins with a lavish party thrown by Marina Gregg in her new home, Gossington Hall. Among the guests is Heather Badcock (played by Maureen Bennett), a local woman who is a big fan of Marina's and who insists on sharing a story with her idol. Marina is polite but distant, and Heather becomes visibly upset when Marina's attention is diverted by other guests. Later that evening, Heather becomes ill and is rushed to the hospital, where she dies soon after.
Miss Marple, who attended the party, becomes suspicious of the circumstances surrounding Heather's death and starts her own investigation. She enlists the help of her friend, the local police inspector Dermot Craddock (played by Edward Fox), and together they uncover a web of secrets and motives among the guests of the party, many of whom had a reason to want Heather dead.
As the investigation progresses, it becomes clear that Heather was not the intended victim and that the real target was Marina, who was poisoned by mistake. Miss Marple and Inspector Craddock race against time to solve the case before the killer strikes again.
The Mirror Crack'd is notable for its star-studded cast, which includes not only Lansbury, Taylor, and Hudson, but also Kim Novak, Tony Curtis, and Geraldine Chaplin.
