Gordon Bombay, played by Emilio Estevez, is a successful but ruthless lawyer who has forgotten his love for hockey. He gets arrested for drunk driving and is sentenced to coach a local youth hockey team, the District 5 Ducks, as part of his community service.
At first, Gordon is a reluctant coach who doesn't take the team seriously. But as he gets to know the kids and sees their passion for the game, he becomes more invested. The team, which is made up of misfits and underdogs, includes Charlie Conway (Joshua Jackson), who dreams of being a star player, and Fulton Reed (Elden Henson), the team's enforcer.
Gordon's coaching style is unconventional at first, focusing on building the team's confidence and having fun while playing. However, he struggles to overcome his own past trauma as a failed hockey player and his complicated relationship with his former coach, Jack Reilly (Lane Smith), who is now coaching the opposing team.
As the Ducks start to improve their skills and win games, they face increasing hostility and dirty tactics from Reilly's team. Gordon must navigate his own emotional journey while also protecting his young players from harm.
The movie culminates in a climactic showdown between the Ducks and Reilly's team, with Gordon finally facing and overcoming his old demons. The Mighty Ducks was a popular sports movie that spawned two sequels and a spin-off animated series.
