The Melancholy Fantastic follows the story of a young girl named Lorraine who is struggling to cope with the recent suicide of her mother. As her grief and delusions begin to take over her life, Lorraine finds solace in her fascination with the Gothic subculture and becomes enamored with a Goth boy named Shepard.
Despite the objections of her father and her talking muslin doll, Lorraine becomes increasingly obsessed with Shepard and begins to spiral out of control. As the holiday season approaches, Lorraine's mental state deteriorates further and she becomes increasingly unable to distinguish reality from her own twisted fantasies.
