The Marijuana Conspiracy

Drama  Canada

The Marijuana Conspiracy is a Canadian film directed by Craig Pryce and written by Dan Cooper. The film is based on a true story set in 1972, which follows a group of young women who are recruited for a secret research study in a Canadian prison, studying the effects of marijuana on them. Twelve women, ranging in age from 18 to 25, are brought together for the study.

The women are isolated from the rest of the world and divided into two groups: one group is given marijuana, while the other group is not. The study is led by Dr. Erica Mallery-Blythe (Tymika Tafari), who is a psychologist interested in exploring the drug's potential benefits to psychiatric patients. However, the study soon turns into a nightmare when the women are subjected to extreme physical and emotional abuse by the male prison guards.

As the women endure the isolation and abuse, they form a bond and seek to find ways to survive the harsh conditions they are subjected to. They also discover that the study is not what it seems and that the true intentions of the researchers are far more insidious. The film touches on themes of sexism, power, and control.

The Marijuana Conspiracy features a talented cast, including Julia Sarah Stone, Morgan Kohan, Brittany Bristow, Kyla Avril Young, and Luke Bilyk. The film premiered at the Canadian Film Fest 2020 and is now available for streaming on various platforms.
