The Male Gaze: Three's Company is a collection of three short films that explore different dynamics in gay relationships. Each film focuses on a group of men and how introducing a third person affects their dynamics and relationships.
In the first film, "Family Members," a young man is forced to confront his family dynamics when his estranged father unexpectedly shows up at his doorstep. While the young man's boyfriend provides comfort and support, the father's presence causes tension and upheaval in their relationship.
The second film, "Looking," follows a group of men on a night out in a Japanese bathhouse. One man becomes enamored with a manga artist and tries to impress him with his knowledge of the genre. When a third man enters the fray, the group dynamics become more complicated and the manga artist's true intentions are revealed.
The final film, "Dress Rehearsal," explores the relationship between two high school classmates who reconnect years later. When one of them unexpectedly becomes a babysitter for the other's child, tensions arise as they try to navigate their conflicting feelings and the demands of parenting.
Throughout the three films, the male gaze is used to explore not only the physical relationships between the characters but also the emotional and psychological ones. The result is a complex and nuanced exploration of what it means to be a gay man in relationships.
