The Magdalene Sisters is a 2002 drama film directed by Peter Mullan. The story is based on the true events of the Magdalene Laundries, a system of institutions run by the Catholic Church in Ireland where women who were considered sinners or social outcasts were sent to be punished and purified.
Crispina, Rose, Margaret, and Bernadette are all young women from different backgrounds who end up in the Magdalene Laundries in the early 1960s.
