The Love Guru stars Mike Myers as Guru Pitka, a man who was orphaned and raised by gurus in an ashram in India. He is popular in his native land for his books, teachings, and self-help practices. However, Pitka is not yet recognized as a spiritual leader in America, so he returns to the United States to establish his reputation.

Pitka's rise to fame in America comes when he is hired by the owner of the Toronto Maple Leafs, Jane Bullard (Jessica Alba), to help their star player, Darren Roanoke (Romany Malco), reconcile with his estranged wife, Prudence (Meagan Good). Roanoke's marriage has fallen apart since he caught his wife in a sexual tryst with Jacques "Le Coq" Grande (Justin Timberlake), the rival player of the Los Angeles Kings.

To help Roanoke, Pitka uses his unique blend of spirituality and pop culture, including a daily chant of "Mariska Hargitay" (as in the actress from Law & Order: Special Victims Unit) to clear his mind. As Roanoke's game improves, his rekindled relationship with his wife becomes the key to the Maple Leafs' success and their chance at winning the Stanley Cup.

The Love Guru also features appearances from famous faces, including Kanye West, Oprah Winfrey, and Deepak Chopra. The film received mixed reviews upon its release in 2008 but has since developed a cult following.
