Caroline Thomas, played by Betty White, is a widow who lost her husband, Neil, in World War II. Every year on Valentine's Day, she visits the Union Station in downtown Los Angeles where she last saw him in 1944. There, she meets a journalist named Susan Allison (Jennifer Love Hewitt) who is investigating the lost valentine story.
