The Longest Yard is a 2005 American sports comedy film directed by Peter Segal and starring Adam Sandler, Chris Rock, and Burt Reynolds. The film is a remake of the 1974 film of the same name, which starred Burt Reynolds in the role of Paul Crewe.
In this version of the story, Adam Sandler plays the role of Paul Crewe, a former NFL quarterback who has been arrested and sent to prison for drunk driving. While in prison, Crewe is approached by the warden and asked to assemble a football team made up of the best inmates in the prison to play against the guards in a game that the guards are guaranteed to win.
Crewe agrees to the warden's request, but he has his own plans for the game. He decides to recruit a team of inmates who are not only skilled football players, but also have a grudge against the guards. Together with Nate Scarboro (played by Chris Rock), a former college football champion who is also serving time in the prison, Crewe trains the team to play dirty and take advantage of the guards' weaknesses.
