The Living Idol is a 1957 adventure film directed by Albert Lewin. The story revolves around an American archaeologist named Dr. William Farraday, played by James Robertson Justice, who is on a quest to find the lost treasure of the Aztecs. He is helped by an anthropologist named Clotilde, played by Liliane Montevecchi, and a Mexican guide named Juanita, played by Jeanne Crain.
During their search, they come across a young Mexican woman named Juanita, who Dr. Farraday believes is the reincarnation of an Aztec princess. Juanita is played by Dorothy Dandridge, who was the first African American woman to be nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actress. Dr. Farraday becomes obsessed with proving his theory and sets out to use Juanita to find the hidden treasure of the Aztecs.
As they venture deeper into the jungle, they encounter many dangers including treacherous terrain, hostile natives, and deadly booby traps. Along the way, Farraday begins to fall in love with Juanita, which complicates his mission and puts them all in danger. Ultimately, they uncover the lost treasure of the Aztecs, but not without a final confrontation with a rival archaeologist who seeks to claim it for himself.
