The Little Stranger is a gothic horror film, based on the best-selling novel by Sarah Waters. It is set in the late 1940s in England, and follows the story of Dr. Faraday, a fashionable young doctor who is called to visit Hundreds Hall, a sprawling and ancient estate where his mother once worked as a housemaid.
Faraday is immediately struck by the beauty and grandeur of the hall, but is also aware of the terrible sense of decay and despair that seems to afflict the Ayres family. Roderick Ayres, the master of the house, is a wounded veteran of the war who suffers from severe physical and emotional scars. His sister Caroline is fiercely protective of him, but struggles to maintain control over the crumbling property.
As Faraday begins to treat Roderick's illness, he becomes drawn into the mysterious history of Hundreds Hall and the strange events that seem to be unfolding there. Is the house haunted by supernatural forces, or is there something more sinister at work? As he delves deeper into the secrets of the Ayres family, Faraday finds himself caught up in a terrifying web of betrayal, revenge, and dark obsessions.
