Melody, the daughter of Ariel and Prince Eric, is now twelve years old and is growing increasingly curious about the mysterious and enchanting world under the sea. Despite her parents' attempts to shield her from the dangers of the ocean, Melody is drawn to the water and often sneaks away from the safety of her home to explore the secrets of the ocean.
Unbeknownst to Melody, her explorations bring her closer to an old enemy of her family, the vengeful sea witch Morgana. Morgana, the sister of Ursula (the villain from the first Little Mermaid movie), is determined to claim the throne of the sea from King Triton whose forces vanquished her sister from underwater.
Morgana sees Melody as the key to her plan for taking over the ocean - a child of both the land and the sea who could lure Triton's armies away from her. To this end, Morgana employs her own magic to give Melody the gift of a mermaid's tail and thus make her a permanent part of the undersea world.
As Melody explores her new abilities, discovering more about her heritage, she also makes new friends beneath the waves, including a friendly dolphin named Tip and a young merboy named Sebastian (who is the grandson of Ariel's crustacean friend from the original movie).
But as Melody becomes more entangled in Morgana's plot, she must decide where her loyalties lie. Will she remain loyal to the family she knows and loves, or will she succumb to Morgana's promises of power and mischief?
With beautiful new songs and memorable characters from both the land and the sea, The Little Mermaid II: Return to the Sea is an enchanting adventure that will delight audiences of all ages.
