The Little Colonel is a 1935 musical comedy-drama film directed by David Butler. It stars Shirley Temple in the lead role, with Lionel Barrymore, Evelyn Venable, and John Lodge in supporting roles.

The film starts with Elizabeth Lloyd running off to marry Jack Sherman, a Yankee. This angers her father, Colonel Lloyd, who is a former Confederate officer, and he disowns her. Several years later, Elizabeth returns to her hometown, this time with her husband and daughter, Lloyd Sherman.

Colonel Lloyd is still angry with his daughter and refuses to acknowledge her presence. However, Lloyd tries her best to patch things up between her mother and grandfather. She befriends the Colonel's black servant, Uncle Bill, who is also a former slave, and learns about the Colonel's past.

Lloyd also meets and befriends a little black girl named Dora, who is Uncle Bill's granddaughter. However, their friendship is not well received by the white townspeople, who frown upon interracial relationships.

The story takes a dramatic turn when the Colonel suffers a stroke and Lloyd is the only one who can save his life. She leads him to safety during a flood and helps him recover from his stroke. The Colonel starts to see the error of his ways and eventually reconciles with his daughter and welcomes his granddaughter into his life.

The Little Colonel is a heartwarming and entertaining film that showcases the talents of Shirley Temple and Lionel Barrymore. The film's themes of forgiveness, acceptance, and racial harmony are still relevant today and make it a timeless classic.
