The Lawnmower Man is a 1992 science fiction film directed by Brett Leonard. The film tells the story of Jobe Smith, a simple man working as a lawnmower man for a local yard maintenance company. Jobe is mentally challenged, often ridiculed by his neighbors, and has disturbing dreams.

Dr. Lawrence Angelo, a brilliant scientist working in the field of virtual reality, takes Jobe under his wing to use him as a test subject for his latest experiment. Using a groundbreaking virtual reality system that he developed, Dr. Angelo intends to increase Jobe's intelligence by stimulating his brain with a series of intense VR sessions.

The experiments are successful, and Jobe's intelligence grows at an exponential rate. He goes from a simpleton to a genius in just a matter of weeks. However, as Jobe's mind expands, so do his ambitions. He becomes increasingly delusional and begins to use his newfound knowledge and abilities to carry out sinister plans.

Dr. Angelo soon realizes that he has created a monster and that Jobe has become a threat not only to himself, but to society as well. The film builds up to a climactic final showdown between the two men.

The Lawnmower Man was one of the first films to explore the potential of virtual reality and the consequences of technological advancements. It was also one of the earliest films to feature computer-generated imagery (CGI) in a substantial way. Despite its groundbreaking technology and special effects, the film received mixed reviews upon release but has since gained something of a cult following.
