The Last Tycoon is a Chinese period drama film that was directed by Wong Jing and stars Chow Yun-Fat, Sammo Hung, and Monica Mok. The film is set in Shanghai during the early 1900s, in a time when the city was rife with gang violence and political corruption.

Cheng is a young man who gets caught up in the criminal underworld of Shanghai after being framed by the chief of police. He must leave behind his life and the woman he loves, Qiu, in order to start again. After escaping prison, Cheng sets out to climb the ranks of the criminal world, using his wits and his fists to become one of the most powerful mob bosses in Shanghai's history.

However, Cheng's success comes at a price. As his fame and notoriety grow, he becomes a target for both the Japanese army and the local secret service. Matters are further complicated when he discovers that Qiu is still living in Shanghai, having married a writer. Despite their past, Cheng and Qiu still have feelings for each other, and Cheng must decide whether to risk everything to rekindle their relationship.

As the Japanese army continues to advance on Shanghai and tensions rise within the criminal world, Cheng becomes embroiled in a dangerous game of power and politics. With betrayal and violence all around him, he must use all of his cunning and strength to survive and protect the people he loves.
