The drug lord in question is Gabriel Cortez, who has just escaped from FBI custody while being transported from Las Vegas to federal prison. With the help of his henchmen, including a skilled marksman named Burrell, Cortez steals a powerful car that can reach speeds of over 200mph and heads toward the Mexican border, fully intending to cross over into Mexico and disappear.
Meanwhile, in Sommerton Junction, Sheriff Owens and his small team of deputies, including the inexperienced Jerry Bailey and the aging Frank Martinez, investigate a missing person case. However, they soon learn of the impending danger and the threat posed by Cortez and his heavily armed thugs.
Initially, Owens is hesitant to engage with the situation due to the potential danger it poses to the town and his deputies. He believes that the FBI and other federal agencies should handle the matter, but when he learns that there are innocent lives at stake, including a kidnapped FBI agent, he decides to take action and use his expertise to prevent Cortez from crossing the border.
Owens and the Sommerton Junction police chief, Mike Figuerola, quickly formulate a plan to intercept Cortez before he can reach the border. They block off the only bridge out of town and prepare to make a final stand against Cortez's army of ruthless gang members.
As the conflict approaches, Owens and his team are joined by a group of rogue civilians, including an ex-con, a gun enthusiast, and a local farmer, who are all willing to use their skills and firearms to help defend the town. Together, they face off against Cortez's powerful car and his seemingly endless army of henchmen in a thrilling and action-packed showdown.
