The Last Shift

N/A  United States of America

The Last Shift is a drama-comedy film directed by Andrew Cohn and starred by Richard Jenkins as Stanley and Shane Paul McGhie as Jevon. The movie centers around Stanley's final weekend at Oscar's Chicken and Fish, a fast-food restaurant in Michigan where he has worked for 38 years.

As Stanley prepares to leave, his boss, Scott, asks him to train Jevon, a young African-American man who recently got out of prison. Stanley, a white man, initially hesitates to train Jevon but eventually agrees to do so. As they work together, Stanley and Jevon's different worlds collide as they both discover and challenge each other's preconceptions and biases.

As Stanley tries to impart his work ethic and experience to Jevon, he begins to question the purpose of his life's work and his own sense of identity. Meanwhile, Jevon struggles to reconcile his past mistakes and his desire to move on and make a better life for himself.

Throughout the film, the contrast of Stanley's old-fashioned values and Jevon's youthful optimism and openness creates tension, but ultimately leads to a better understanding of each other. As their relationship grows, both Stanley and Jevon realize that they have more in common than they thought.

The Last Shift is a poignant and thought-provoking movie that explores themes of race, class, and identity. It highlights the endurance and dignity of working-class Americans and the challenges they face in an ever-changing society.
