The Last Metro is a 1980 French film directed by François Truffaut. The film is set during the German occupation of France in World War II. Marion Steiner is a famous actress who is married to Lucas Steiner, a Jewish theater director. Lucas decides to go into hiding to avoid being captured by the Nazis, leaving Marion to run the theater on her own.

Marion's performance skills help her to keep the theater open and attract audiences. She also hires Bernard Granger, an actor who has a crush on her, to play the lead in the play. However, Bernard has a secret of his own. He is a member of the Resistance and is using the theater as a cover to distribute anti-Nazi leaflets.

As the war rages on, Marion must contend not only with the danger of being discovered as a collaborator but also with her feelings for Bernard. Meanwhile, Lucas is hiding out in the basement of the theater, and Marion must keep his presence a secret from the Nazis, who are constantly on the lookout for Jews. The film ends with Lucas coming out of hiding and revealing his survival to Marion and Bernard.

The Last Metro received critical acclaim upon its release, and it won ten César Awards, including Best Film and Best Director. The film is considered one of Truffaut's best works and is a testament to his ability to infuse even dark subject matter with warmth, humor, and humanity.
